The First Meeting

Several Young Democrats before the meeting

Everyone!

During the first Young Democrats meeting, we chose our president, vice president, and treasurer. We also discussed future plans, such as the Kick-off Rally and service project ideas. Overall, it was a great evening. Thank you to everyone who came out and made the first meeting so successful. We hope to see even more people at the next!

As part of this, a Young Democrats rally is planned on March 26 in Dobson, featuring a scheduled appearance by North Carolina Secretary of State Elaine Marshall. Other guest speakers are to be part of the event along with live music and hot dogs, according to Ric Marshall, who is spearheading the Surry Young Democrats’ resurrection.

'It’s to bring in the enthusiasm, get young people involved in the Democratic Party,' Marshall said of the reasons behind the move. 'The main point is being able to get people involved and interested once again in the processes of our government.'

Although the Surry Young Democrats is open to persons who are 18 to 35, people of all ages are invited to the upcoming rally, Marshall said. That’s because the guidance of veteran members of the party is deemed essential to the group’s kickoff as well, he added.

'It’s for young Democrats, but we need everyone to come out...'"
